    Kyomachiya Lounge
    The Kyomachiya (formerly a companion house) designated as a tangible cultural property registered by Kyoto City has been preserved and renovated and redesigned as a lounge. We will provide you with the experience of staying as if you were living in a traditional Kyomachiya. <Library (Machiya 2nd floor, Rokkaku-dori side)> In the library that retains the insect cage window mud sesame that is peculiar to Kyoto Machiya, we have collected books that stimulate creativity, from Kyoto culture and festivals to design and management philosophy. Available 24 hours a day, coffee and tea (free of charge) are also available. Please use it when you want to keep a plan and record of your work or trip with your favorite cup in one hand. <Lounge bar (2nd floor of Machiya, courtyard side)> Feel free to enjoy a glass of selected wine (13: 00-23: 00 / paid). Facing the backyard and courtyard where you can feel the atmosphere of a Kyomachiya, it is a space where you can relax on tatami mats. It is also recommended for a blissful moment after taking a bath. If you would like a chair, we will guide you to the bar counter seats.
    What is a companion house?
    (Quoted from the signboard of Kyoto City Historic Site) Originally from Omihachiman Town, the companion settled in his current position in 1896 and has been running a kimono wholesaler for generations. The main building is a form of Omoteya-style Omoteya, which connects the store building and the residential building in the back with an entrance building, and it is probable that it was in its current form in 1884. Architecturally, the tatami room is of particular interest. The tatami room, which consists of the main room and the next room, is finished in a sukiya style, such as by building a face-skin pillar menkawabashira and turning the face-skin long press, and the main room has a floor, shelves, and a flat shoin. In the back of the top and bottom bags, there is a sumi-e painting of Ike no Taiga. The details are elaborate, and the design is also excellent. Although this main building has been slightly modified, it retains the taste of a Kyomachiya as a whole. In addition, there is a tendency for Machiya in Kyoto to reconstruct only the tatami room from the Meiji era to the Taisho era, and our tatami room is an example of this, showing the trend of Machiya in modern times.
